Sean Connery was the first and best known actor to play James Bond. Beginning in the 1962 with Dr No and after an initial resignation from the role he returned to play the secret agent again in Diamonds are Forever. His final film in the role was in 1983's Never Say Never Again, the only independent James Bond production this far. Sean Connery went on to win an oscar for his role in The Untouchables and finally retired from acting on 7th June, 2007. Connery is a staunch supporter of an independent Scotland and is member of the Scottish Nationalist Party to whom he also conterubuted funding and through personal appearances.
