He is credited with saving Canada from much of the damage felt around the world after the 2008 financial crash. Spending thirteen years with Goldman Sachs in London, Tokyo, New York and Toronto, he steadily climbed the ladder to more an more important positions, before moving to the Canadian Department of Finance and eventually joined the Bank of Canada in 2003 and was appointed governor in 2007. After the disastrous last few years the UK economy needs someone with such international credentials to dig it out of the debt hole he has found itself in since 2008.
