US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle, visit No.10, as the Prime Minister David Cameron bellhop carries their cases. Referencing the President's recent hints that the 'special relationship' between the USA and the UK might not be quite so special anymore. For The Guardian.
Historically 'The Special Relationship' has been used to describe the very close political, economic, cultural, military and diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and United States of America, following a speech by Winston Churchill in 1946. The level of cooperation between them in trade, commerce, military operations, nuclear technology and intelligence dissemination has been described as unique among leading powers.
The UK and USA have been closely allied in many military conflicts and political issues through the whole of the 20th century and into the 21st, including World War I and II, the Cold War, the Gulf War and invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. With recent conflicts in Ukraine and the rise of ISIS sees the two powers united again.
